What are the benefits of hot cold therapy?
Hot to cold therapy, also known as contrast therapy, is the process of going from hot (sauna) to cold (cold plunge). When the body is warm, blood flow is increased to the limbs and extremities. Cold has the opposite effect, slowing blood flow to the extremities and promoting local blood circulation (through the core of the body). Since the lymph system doesn’t have the same pumping action as the circulatory system, the alternating of hot to cold helps move the lymph fluid through the body. The same process happens with the muscles which helps to remove metabolic waste from the muscles into the blood stream for excretion.
